Voice BACKDATED A LOT to like the 8th

[After his talk with Eridan, Septimus feels very... confused, to say the least. Flattered, yes. But confused as to why she would confront Eridan over him.]

Er, Damara? Do you have a few minutes to talk?

[Damara has no idea that Eridan went to talk to Septimus, and thus has no idea what he is coming to her for. But by the tone in his voice, she can tell it's something important.]

I do, yes. Is something wrong?

[He clears his throat, trying to brush away some of the awkwardness he's feeling. Just... after Eridan claiming there's something going on between them, he can't help but be embarrassed by the thought. Not in a bad way! Just... it's never been a thing he's thought about.]

No, not really! I talked to Eridan recently, though. He kinda... uh- Well, a conversation you had with him made him think you and I are... y'know.

[The same is true for Damara too: she never really had the time to think about romance before, so the idea hadn't even come to her before Eridan had said something. She still thinks it is stupid and definitely not true, but now she is actually thinking about it, and doubting herself.

Having Septimus come to her about it doesn't help the situation either.

There is a long pause before she answers, mostly because she is screaming internally for a moment and trying her best to curse Eridan with her mind while not making a sound.]

That...was unintentional. He has romance on the brain, and I did not take that into account when I approached him.

[Damara isn't the only one doubting herself, either. The idea had been so ridiculous at first- they were friends! He considered her a really good friend. But now thinking about it- well, it's hard not to entertain the idea in some form or another without really meaning to. It's a very confusing feeling and he felt it was a lot easier when he was just under the impression that they could only ever be friends.]

Oh, good. We're on the same page. I pretty much told him that was ridiculous! And he was getting weird and saying you had no right to question your superior and really dumb stuff like that.

[Can you hear the eye roll in his voice?]

But you know what I told him? I told him that he should know that nobody is your superior. I couldn't believe he was trying to act like he could control you, it was really stupid.

[It would be a lot easier to keep with the 'just friends' mantra if Septimus didn't go and defend her like that. Though she is slightly annoyed- she still has issues with the whole hemospectrum thing and wants to punch anyone who brings it up- hearing that he actually stood up for her makes her cheeks burn a bit. It's a good thing this is a voice conversation, she wouldn't be able to show her face right now.]

[Normally she would talk a lot more, but that was such a touching thing to do, she's at a loss for words.]

[Septimus really hadn't meant for it to be such a touching gesture. Honestly? It had just come naturally to him. For all he's been trying to befriend Eridan for his own safety, there are just some lines you don't cross.

Thinking you can control his good friend who's talked so much about finally being free is just not a line you cross, in his opinion.]

You don't have to thank me! I know how much it means to you, being free. I couldn't just let him say those things.

[She's still smiling right now, though. For all of the awkward, she is ridiculously happy.]

But it is still very kind of you, to stand up to him for me. And I suppose this makes us even, too.

[... You know, he hadn't really thought about it like that- this making them even. But he laughs, because he supposes it's true. All in all, he feels a lot better now for the conversation.]

[He trails off, but after a moment he speaks up again as it occurs to him that he never thanked her for what she did, either.]

Thank you, too. For trying to look out for me. I know how much you don't like Eridan, so...

[So that must mean she likes him a lot in order to put up with talking to him.

With that thought in his mind, suddenly he feels a weird feeling in his stomach like butterflies exploding. Ugh, no, she's just his friend. It's just a friend looking out for a friend, it doesn't mean anything.

He's seriously over thinking this. Fuck you for planting seeds of doubt, Eridan.]

[Overthinking seems to be a problem with both of them. But at least it's normal for Damara to overthink things, so the pauses before she answers seem less weird.]

It's alright. I know you do not know much about troll culture, and I was trying to remind him of that fact. 'Trying' being the key word there.

[Nevermind that she totally tried to come to at least a forced quiet between them so that their fighting wouldn't upset Septimus.]

[He laughs a little and the slightly nervous tone of it can be attributed to being put out with Eridan. He's still just trying to tell himself that no, he's being silly. She's just looking out for him because of the differences in their species. That's all.]

He's really good at misunderstanding things. In really, really big ways. Wow.

He does. But fortunately, most trolls are not like him.

[Most trolls are still weird as fuck, but they're not complete assholes like Eridan is.]

If you have not met her yet, you should speak to the Dolorosa. I think you would get along with her.

[He smiles at the mention of Dolorosa, his mind momentarily distracted from the silly thoughts plaguing it.]

I've met her! She's actually really nice. She kinda helped me with Sollux and Eridan when Sollux thought I was... er, the quadruplet that isn't black, but not red either.

[It's still confusing for him, he's sorry.]

The quadrants, you mean.

Did anyone properly explain those to you? That might help with the confusion.

[Now it's time for his face to burn a little. Every time he talks to a troll, he feels like he makes really stupid cultural mistakes and then feels embarrassed for it.]

Yeah... sorry about that.

The Dolorosa told me about them, though. So... I sort of get them? But they're still pretty hard to grasp. Mostly hate being a form of romance, but I don't think any amount of explaining will make that make sense.

I will admit, they can be difficult to grasp. But in the same way, it is also difficult for a troll to understand how a human could find everything they need in one partner.

[Damara's not saying this to make Septimus feel silly, but moreso for him to not feel so alone in the whole cultural thing. There are some parts of human culture that baffle Damara.]

Oh- I never really thought about it like that.

[And it's also times like that this that Septimus realizes that she's... Well, an alien. Does this mean that she couldn't find everything she needs in one person? It seems silly that Eridan could think they're together- obviously trolls and humans don't work, right?]

[She is an alien, yes, but she was also raised to be a tiny murder-machine with no lover in her heart. She's not exactly a typical troll by any definition.

Also, she's still trying to deny any thoughts that might even hint at romance between the two of them. So she's still denying the possibility of human/troll romance.]

That would actually be very helpful. I have not come across anything yet, but if I do, I will come to you with my questions. And likewise, you can come to me for answers too.

[When he speaks, there's a smile in his voice. All in all, it's been a pretty... interesting conversation, but it's one he's glad they have. He feels a little closer to her because of it and even though he's been having some pretty weird thoughts, he's doing pretty good at not thinking about them.]
